Kelly Henderson

Kelly started dancing Argentine tango with her partner Eric in 2006 while they were living in Montreal. After moving to Victoria in 2009 they continued their study of the dance by taking classes with local and visiting instructors, and travelling to study with masters across Canada and the US. Kelly has travelled multiple times to Buenos Aires to continue to grow her skills a a dancer and as a teacher. She has been teaching tango in Victoria since 2011. Her style of dancing is focused on connection and musicality.
In her teaching, Kelly focuses on developing a solid foundation of technique and good connection between partners. She encourages students to use these foundational skills to creatively expand their relationship to the dance, the music, and their partners. Kelly loves both leading and following in tango and encourages her students to explore both roles, or whichever role they are most interested in.

Samuel Binette

Sam is originally from Montreal but now living, working and dancing in Victoria.

He was introduced to Argentine Tango through some passionate friends in 2015 and had no idea at the time how much these fun Sunday afternoon classes would forever change his life.

Sam’s background was mostly in the arts where he studied Jazz Bass and Photography. After stumbling into an IT career, the unpredictable and improvised nature of Argentine Tango became his outlet into reconnecting with his creative and musical self.

Sam notes that “Tango is an improvised dance where the music you hear guides the steps you choose to propose.  Very much like Jazz, it is a language that gets more clear and precise with the amount of effort you put into learning, practicing and playing.  And I did a lot of that…”

He is eager to share what he’s learned through Studying, Traveling and DJing and looks forward to giving each student a little taste of what this rich and beautiful partnered dance has to offer.

Grazyna Sommerfeld

Grazyna is originally from Poland but has lived in beautiful Victoria for over 20 years. She has been an avid dancer all her life and has been involved with many dance communities, but she got hooked on tango when she first saw it performed live at a wedding in 2016.

Grazyna is not one to limit her enthusiasm or take things slowly; she dove headfirst into tango with everlasting energy, taking advantage of every opportunity to learn more about the dance and the rich cultural tradition it is rooted in. She travelled to Buenos Aires in 2019 which “left a big happy mark in her heart”, and she has been learning Spanish to better understand the nuances of the culture and music. Grazyna’s approach to teaching is direct and clear, she is eager to share her experience and love of the dance with everyone (even if you don’t know that you’re interested yet 😉

Grazyna and Sam have been dancing together regularly for over 3 years and their dance partnership has helped her to maintain her sanity during the pandemic.
